Services

The following is a detailed list of the services available to residents at Blackburn Lodge.  Please note that all of these services are standard unless otherwise noted.  Also, some services can be deleted at discounted prices, and discounts are also available for absences.  Speak to our staff for more information.

Security Services

  • exterior doors locked after hours; residents have keys
  • exterior door alarms alert staff when opened, preventing winter lockouts
  • private mailboxes or personal delivery
  • extra staff on-call after hours; call-back system in case of emergency
  • fire detection/prevention systems

Health Services (varies according to nursing plan chosen)

  • qualified healthcare staff available 24 hours a day
  • two call bells per suite; handrails; grab bars
  • medication supervision/administration, individualized plan
  • house physician visits regularly (on-call for emergencies)
  • medication and medical supply ordering and delivery service
  • booking service for laboratory procedures and medical appointments
  • in-house care with tray service during temporary illness
  • basic assistance with personal care including weekly bathing assistance
  • other care plans for those requiring more assistance (extra costs involved)

Dining and Nutrition

  • dining room open all day; self-service between regular meal hours; coffee and juices always available
  • home-cooked meals prepared on-site, rotating menu with lots of variation; choice available at lunch and dinner
  • special menus on holidays/special occasions
  • low sodium & soft food diets can be accomodated
  • diabetic choices are available
  • guest arrangements at any meal (charges apply)
  • regular snack service
  • special service if ill or diabetic

Activities

  • Activity Director on-site
  • monthly activity calendar
  • recreation lounge with fireplace, tv room, sitting rooms, balcony
  • chapel with regular services
  • regular arts and crafts group; visiting entertainers
  • regular day trips in Ottawa area and beyond; shopping excursions at least weekly
  • residents council, monthly meetings
  • outdoor patio with BBQ, shuffleboard and gardening

Personal Services (speak to our staff for special requests)

  • daily light room cleaning and weekly full-service cleaning (linens, hand soap, and tissue provided)
  • personal laundry service; laundry rooms on every floor to do your own if preferred
  • transportation to Blackburn Lodge sponsored activities and some personal appointments
  • Paratranspo comes regularly, close walk (2 minutes) to regular city bus routes
  • outgoing mail service; on-site banking
  • hair salon/barber on-site
  • room to room newspaper delivery
  • drycleaning arrangements

Options (extra charges apply)

  • extra care nursing – more intensive version of basic service
  • assisted living plan, similar to private duty nursing but arranged internally at a lower cost
  • foot care
  • upgrade cable services to include more channels, HD channels, and internet
  • telephone service
  • plug-in parking (nominal fee, if any)
  • furniture rental (if in an unfurnished suite)
  • guest rooms and meals
  • respite and convalescent care
